Abstract

The Ouachita and Appalachian orogens extend along southern and eastern North America from northern Mexico and western Texas northeastward to Newfoundland. The orogen includes many diachronous along-strike variations in tectonic history, which includes a complete Wilson cycle beginning with continental rifting and breakup of supercontinent Rodinia by ~530 Ma and ending with amalgamation of supercontinent Pangaea ~260 Ma.
