Southern Society for Clinical Investigation Founders’ Medal Recipient’s Address

Abstract

I thank the SSCI and the members of the council for presenting to me the Founders’ Medal. This is a very great honor. As a young attendee of these meetings, I recall the presentation of the Founders’ Medal as a highlight of the plenary session. It gave us all a glimpse into the lives of senior academicians that most of us knew only by scientific reputation. I never imagined that I would one day receive the award. The presentation was especially meaningful to me coming from Andy Kang, who is himself a previous recipient of this award and a person who has had a significant influence on my career as my Chairman, advisor, and friend.
