Abstract

Abstract In our current climate of budget cuts, interlibrary loan services are no longer a peripheral activity. They have become a basic and essential service even for the smallest of libraries. In New Jersey, the South Jersey Regional Library Cooperative with over 450 members of all types of libraries, took the lead in providing continuing education for interlibrary loan staff. The Cooperative's purpose is to break down the barriers to effective ILL service by providing opportunities for the classified staff to share expertise and resources. Finding no model to pattern their efforts on, the ILL Forum has moved ahead trying to identify continuing education issues and addressing those needs. The first workshop was attended by over 80 individuals and the Forum is planning an on-site mentor program as well as future workshops.
