Abstract

A group of about 200 flight readiness technicians at Boeing's South Carolina jetliner factory has voted to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Boeing tried to have the election stopped on the grounds that the microunit of only 176 workers in a workforce of more than 6,000 was not an appropriate unit. The company has announced it will challenge the legality of the bargaining unit. The 104–65 vote to join the IAM comes one year after Boeing defeated a plantwide union drive.
