Abstract

A survey of Plant Introduction (PI) accessions, varieties, and breeding lines of southern peas, Vigna sinensis (L.) Savi ex Hassk., revealed potentially valuable sources of resistance to Chalcodermus aeneus Boheman. The highest levels were found in the breeding lines Ala. 963.8, Fla. 68F-213, Fla. 68F-63, and Fla. 421-07, and in the variety ‘Floricream.’ Related species of Tigna were mostly susceptible, but a few showed sufficient promise to justify further testing, including PI 123267, PI 180494, PI 205140, PI 250238 (all V. cylindrica (L.) Skeels), and PI 196301 (V. sesquipedalis (L) Fruw.).
