Abstract

This paper proposes an improved two-step weighted least squares (TSWLS) algorithm for target location using time difference of arrival (TDOA) with sensor position errors. The performance of the TSWLS method is improved in a simple way through re-selecting reference sensor and rotating co-ordinate system, and the improved TSWLS(I-TSWLS) algorithm remains to be closed-form and approximately efficient as the TSWLS method. Simulation results show that the I-TSWLS algorithm can achieve the CRLB easily before higher noise threshold, and it exhibits lower estimation bias and better robustness with increasing sensor position errors.
