Abstract

The effect of radiation source fluctuations on on-line thickness calibration by radiation transmission is presented. These fluctuations result in errors specified by a probability density function (PDF). The variance of the PDF increases with decreasing measurement time-interval in contrast to the decrease of error with decreasing time-interval in some irregular sheets. It also increases with the variance of the incident radiation.
