Abstract

Two ultrasonic transducers mounted a fixed distance apart on air track carts are used to demonstrate the effect of relative motion of propagation medium on the transit time for a signal traveling in one direction over a constant distance, this effect being of first order in v/c. The experiment can be used to clarify the origin of the second-order term v2/c2, which arises from analysis of the Michelson-Morley experiment. Sample experimental data are presented.
