Abstract

This paper presents a theoretical model to predict bending wave transmission through double walls where the two leaves are coupled by a line joint. The model assumes that the joint comprises four semi-infinite plates connected at their edges by an inertia-less rigid beam and allows the structural transmission loss between the plates to be computed. These values can then be used in a standard statistical energy analysis model to predict either the structural transmission from one plate to another or airborne transmission through the wall. The predicted results show good agreement with measurements performed both on a cavity masonry wall and a dry-lined wall tested in a transmission suite.
