Abstract

IntroductionOver the years several investigations have been made of the acoustic behaviour of the external ear.Probe microphone measurements have been carried out at the entrance of the ear canal as well as at the eardrum for several angles of sound incidence. In the present work the acoustic behaviour of the external ear, when blocked with a hearing aid ear-mould, has been studied by measuring the sound pressure response at three different points in the vicinity of the pinna on three individual subjects. To achieve more information about the influence of the external ear on the human sound source localisation ability, the sound pressure responses were measured for six different azimuthal angles of sound wave incidence.Summary of a paper given at a meeting on ‘Susceptibility to Noise Induced Hearing Loss’
