Abstract

Measurements of the absorption of sound in mixtures of oxygen and water vapor are given. The results agree closely with those of H. and L. Knotzel; Harris and Tempest; and Henderson, Clark, and Lintz. They can be described by the equation: f0=9 + 162h + 114h2, where f0 is the frequency of maximum absorption in hertz at a pressure of 1 atm and h is the molar fraction of water vapor × 103. The measurements suggest that the results of Harlow and Kitching were subject to error due to surface adsorption.
