Abstract

Abstract This chapter includes questions and answers on control and prevention of dog and cat fleas (insecticides, insect growth regulators, washing of beddings and vacuuming, fumigation, flea collars), which products should be used, use of isoxazolines to treat cats or dogs for fleas, safety in cats of anti-flea product intended for dogs, the activity and benefits of and common ingredients to avoid in flea collars, what to do in case of accidental ingestion of anti-flea products, nitenpyram and its difference from other flea adulticides, swapping of anti-flea products, effect of insufficient application of anti-flea products on flea control, and the differences in the effects of spot-on topical flea products. The possible consequences of not treating all pets in a house, the occurrence of cat fleas in wildlife casualties, flea infestations other than cat fleas, compliance, resistance, control of fleas without resorting to harmful chemicals, flea traps, and what should be done to prevent future flea problems are discussed.
