Abstract
SUMMARY A hysteresis has been noted between the adsorption and desorption isotherms of TMV nucleoprotein. By comparison with hydrations of RNA and protein separately, the hysteresis can be attributed to TMV capillary water. Following the inactivation by ultraviolet irradiation of nucleic acid in solution, some photorecovery on bean leaves can be observed; this does not seem to occur if the RNA is irradiated dry.
