Abstract

Modification of polystyrene (PS) with bentonite was carried out, and film materials with improved sorption properties toward macroheterocyclic compounds were obtained. It has been shown that the efficiency of adsorption of meso-phenylporphyrin iodide on the PS–bentonite composite is increased threefold compared to unmodified polymer. The kinetics of porphyrin adsorption was described by the reaction equations of the pseudo-first and pseudo-second order. It was revealed by IR spectroscopy that the adsorption of meso-phenylporphyrin iodide on the PS–bentonite composite occurs as a result of the donor–acceptor interaction of the porphyrin reaction centers with the oxygen-containing groups of the composite.
