Abstract
Equilibrium and kinetic studies were carried out on the removal of dissolved oxygen from a very dilute (10 −3 molar) aqueous solution of cobalt sulphate using a macroreticular anion exchanger, Tulsion A-27 MP, in sulphite form. Experiments were performed in a simple batch equipment at room temperature. Equilibrium studies indicated that about 18 mg of oxygen was taken up per gram of anion exchanger, at a final concentration of dissolved oxygen of 1 ppm and higher; sorption was less at lower final concentrations. It was possible to reduce the final concentration to 0.3 ppm. It was also found that kinetic data could be correlated by considering the macroreticular resin to be homogeneous; the effective diffusion coefficient was 1.77 × 10 −7 cm 2 / s .
