Abstract

Enteric duplication cysts are uncommon congenital abnormalities that may be located anywhere along the course of the gastrointestinal tract, from the tongue to the anus. Gastric duplication cysts account for a small portion of all enteric duplications and are usually single cysts located along the greater curvature of the stomach. 1 These cysts typically have a mucosal lining of gastric epithelium surrounded by muscularis propria. The muscularis of the cysts arises from and is contiguous with the muscularis of the stomach, but the mucosa of the cysts usually does not communicate with the gastric lumen. 2 We report a case of multiple gastric duplication cysts in a young male patient, unusual because of their multiplicity and the unexpected histopathologic finding of fibrous, inflamed linings within the cysts, despite the sonographic appearance of typical gut mucosa.
