Abstract

In this paper, we report the obtention of synthetic Atacamite-like β-Cu2(OH)3Cl microcrystals using the sonochemistry route at room temperature. The synthesized material was structurally characterized, confirming the formation of single phase β-Cu2(OH)3Cl with a synthesis time of 30 min. The characteristic vibrational active modes of an orthorhombic structure (Pnma) are found in the Raman and IR spectra. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images reveals several agglomerates with an irregular morphology. The fungal properties of the synthesized sample against Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, Candida parapsilosis, by serial microdilution in 96-well plates confirm the strong activity for the sample synthesized in 30 min against all the tested strains. In this case, it is five times more effective than the positive control, which makes this material a promising candidate in the field of fungicidal applications.
