Abstract
Molten salts have a rich past with a bright future in numerous technologically important areas, ranging from nuclear energy to the elaboration of new materials. Of course, the basis for these technological advances is derived from the fundamental understanding of these multifaceted and fascinating ionic liquids. Thermodynamics is a faithful companion along this route, and provides the unique opportunity to tackle fundamental and applied issues. Examples are given of some steps along this molten salt route.
