Abstract
Let be a finite extension of the field of rational -adic numbers , and let be the cyclotomic -extension of . For an intermediate field in , let be the group of units of and put for all , where is the -adic logarithm. We give an approximate characterization of . The proofs are based on the use of Laurent series with integer coefficients and infinite principal part.
