Abstract

The intrusive core of the Sierra Nevada, California, is a composite mass, some 400 miles in length and locally more than 70 miles wide. In upper Jurassic time, It Intruded intensely folded Paleozoic and lower Mesozoic rocks. It trends northwest, parallel to the coast. Structure‐sections across this pluton have been surveyed by E. Cloos, near the center of the range (Yosemite Section), and in the north part (Dormer Section). A third profile (San Joaquin Section), about 25 miles south of Yosemite, has been studied recently by Mayo.
