Abstract

1. In the last ten years the tempo of development in powder metallurgy in the Soviet Union has been greatly speeded up, although the volume of its industrial production continues to lag behind that of the USA. The undoubted advantages which will accrue to the national economy from the extensive use of the potential of this advanced section of technology require positive action in the shortest possible time. 2. It is necessary to complete projects connected with skilled review investigations into the industry of the country with the aim of clarifying the demands for powder metals in the next ten years. On the basis of data from this inquiry we shall determine the capacity, regional distribution, number of centralized concerns handling powder metals, and also the subjects for scientific research organizations. 3. In coming years we should also plan the levels of production that are to be introduced in powder metallurgy with regard to the areas of the industry which completely cover regional demands. One of the problems of the work under review is to attempt to determine the scientifically based periods and growth rates for powder metals. 4. For the rational, rapid, and extensive introduction into the national economy of the country of powder-metal products, it is necessary to arrange an all-state organ with the functions of coordinating and planning all projects in this area.
