Abstract

Ribosomes were separated from the sporoplasm of the microsporidian Nosema bombycis, and some properties were studied by using a sucrose density gradient. The ribosomes were mainly monoribosomes with a sedimentation coefficient resembling that of Escherichia coli (= 70 S), and in the medium containing Mg 2+ ions of less than 0.1m m dissociated into subunits of which sedimentation coefficients were 50S and 30S, respectively.
