Abstract

YBaCuO ceramic, with a nominal metal ratio 1:2:3, was melted in an alumina furnace and squirted in the form of thin wire. The wire obtained is dense and hard but insulating. After homogenisation and short oxygenation the wire becomes superconducting with Tc (onset) equal to that of the usual YBa2Cu3O7 ceramics. Both the resistivity and the initial magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate an improvement of the inter-grain coupling in the wire, which may lead to an enhanced critical current.
