Abstract

Solid solution between and of stoichiometric composition has been studied. It is found that for samples annealed at 600°C for periods of up to four weeks and then air quenched, single phase condition can be obtained at all alloy compositions, and the lattice shows a continuous transition from cubic to rhombohedral form. Room temperature values of lattice parameter and rhombohedral angle α, positive hole concentration and mobility µ and optical energy gap have been determined as a function of composition. The variation in percentage of vacant sites on the germanium sublattice, as determined from , is correlated with the difference in cell volume for cubic and rhombohedral structures.
