Abstract

Abstract A mass balance for the postulated mechanism of diffusion-induced grain boundary migration (DIGM) is presented and it is shown that the mass balance is not completely consistent with the predicted behaviour described by Balluffi and Cahn (1981). Some refinements of the proposed mechanism are suggested, in the light of some recent experimental observations.
