Abstract

Some preliminary results of a Digital Motion Picture Restoration System For Archives (DIMORF) project are discussed. In this project a great amount of image and sound processing problems are solved and the results applied. The goal is to develop a system and a workstation for complete, high-resolution digital restoration of motion pictures specifically for the Hungarian National Film Archive. The system will correct the errors of image and sound as well. We plan to correct films, where the film material and volume of the sound (especially on nitro-celluloid films) are in critical condition and we have to preserve them in archives not only electronically, but on film material as well.
