Abstract

Peptides covalently attached to an insoluble matrix through acid‐resistant linkages, as in the case of PAM and benzhydrylamine resins, have been submitted to Edman degradation directly on the same support used for the synthesis. Under Edman degradation conditions, Trp and His behaved as expected, giving deformylation and detosylation respectively, whereas protected Thr and Ser gave racemization products which have been identified by n.m.r. The rate constants of the racemization reactions have also been determined.
