Abstract

Summary Some preliminary observations have been recorded on unrepaired hare-lips and cleft palates occurring in adult members of the Dusan tribes of North Borneo. It has been observed that in cases where the alveolus or hard palate is cleft, there occurs a medial (palatal) collapse of the lateral alveolar segment on the affected side associated with a diminished downward (vertical) growth of the alveolus. Cases where the alveolus or palate were not cleft showed good development of the alveolar arch.
