1. 1. Bufo cognatus subjected to anoxia exhibits bradycardia and arhythmicity of heart beat. 2. 2. Cutaneous vasolidation and skeletal muscle vasoconstriction were also observed. 3. 3. There was a reduction in the amount of hepatic glycogen accompanied by an increase in blood sugar and lactic acid levels. 4. 4. A shift to anaerobiosis with accompanying cardiovascular adjustments and a general lowering of metabolic rate would be adaptive to anurans encountering oxygen stress while diving or burrowing.
