Some Optimal Control Problems Associated with Richardson’s Arms Race Model

Abstract

We consider some generalizations of the Richardson model of the armaments race of two countries well-known in the political science. As the main distinction from the original model, we can mention the presence of controls. We consider both linear and bilinear models. For both models with control, we pose the problems of optimal performance and study these problems by using Pontryagin's maximum principle.
