Abstract

Abstract Optical absorption at 5300A in barium sodium niobate can be caused by the incorporation of noble metal ions from the crucible into the crystal. Whisker-like inclusions running in the growth direction form at the corners of growth cells when the melts are not stoichiometric or are impure. Striations parallel to the growth face are stoichiometry variations caused by faceted growth and temperature fluctuations during growth.
