Abstract
It is a very challenging topic to carry out electronic structure calculations of large systems fast and efficiently. The mathematical foundations and properties of electronic structure models play an important role in understanding, analyzing and designing computational methods for first-principles electronic structure calculations. In this paper, we shall present some open mathematical problems in the mathematical foundation of electronic structure models and the method and theory of electronic structure calculations.
