Abstract

An attempt is made to show why phytoseiid mites on citrus and avocado in southern California seem to be more effective predators of phytophagous mites than those on apple in southeastern England. It is suggested that this difference is caused both by factors inherent in the predator, such as its distribution, and by factors in its environment, such as the distribution of the prey and winter temperatures.
