These measurements were repeated at multiple intervals from 1 week to 5 years following correction of hypercalcemia. Fifteen patients had surgically proven hyperparathyroidism, and in 5 patients the hypercalcemia was corrected as follows: thyrotoxicosis (1), RAI therapy; lung cancer (1), supervoltage radiotherapy; myeloma (2) and sarcoidosis (1), prednisone therapy.Prior to correction of their hypercalcemia, 7 of 15 patients with hyperparathyroidism had reduced Ccr (mean Ccr 53 ml/minute) and mean serum calcium of 13.9 mg/100 ml. Mean serum calcium in... This content is PDF only. To continue reading please click on the PDF icon. Author, Article, and Disclosure InformationAffiliations: Baltimore, Md.
