Abstract

Analytical chemists use prediction equations, e.g., straight line relationships, to predict future values of experimental responses (calibration domain), to compare analytical procedures, to represent expected values of experimental responses, and to estimate parameters (to evaluate constants in a given mathematical model). The present paper is devoted to the study of basic equations of weighted linear regression (straight line case), with emphasis on the weighting factors as well as on the normalization (scaling) of the weights.
