Abstract

AbstractSemiphenomenological classical non‐equilibrium collective treatment of short‐lived large energy fluctuations (SLEFs) of heavy particles (atoms, etc.) in bulk and on surfaces of solids up to ε ≧ E ≫ kT are considered. The SLEF probability and rate constants are calculated. In the Arrhenius approximation the calculated pre‐exponential factors are exponential functions of E, effective coordination numbers χeff, Debye temperatures θ, etc. The new interpretation of diffusion and desorption experimental data narrowing the discrepancies between the latter and theoretical predictions is suggested.
