Abstract

We characterize approximate linearization to order m of a single input non-linear system in terms of the existence of an integrating factor to order m − 2, which is equivalent to the well-known condition that a system of vector fields be order m − 1 involutive. We present a constructive method to obtain the required transformation for approximate linearization, which results in substantial computational savings.
