Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper is a theoretical investigation of two new techniques to be used in metering the steam quality and flow rate in two phase flows of steam and water mixtures in pipelines of steam injection. The first technique is two orifices in series. The performance of this flow system as a possible flow meter in two phase flow is graphically illustrated with regard to the determination of steam quality and flow rate. The second technique is the two-phase critical flow in a convergent-divergent nozzle. The possibility of using a single device, i.e. a convergent-divergent nozzle operating in the critical flow, in determining both the steam quality and flow rate is theoretically demonstrated. The illustration of the critical flow performance, as a possible flow meter in two phase flows of compressible mixtures, steam and water, is shown and discussed. A comparison with experimental data is also shown.
