Abstract

Interaction between tin tetrachloride and p-fluorobenzoylacetone and 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone in cold benzene afforded, insoluble ion-pair complexes of the type [Cl 2SnL 2]Sn 2+Cl 6 2−1. The same system in refluxing benzene yielded soluble covalent derivatives of the type X 2SnL 2 (where X = Cl, Br, I and L = p-fluorobenzoylacetonate and 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetonate anion). Based on the physical properties and spectral measurements these derivatives were shown to possess octahedral structure.
