Abstract

Reported racial differences in occurrence of mental disorder have been attributed to inferiority, too rapid acculturation or striving for equality. Data from Baltimore studies indicate that Negroes do not have higher rates for psychoses, psychoneuroses or psychophysiological disorders, but do for mental deficiency. These findings have implications for epidemiology and prevention.
