Abstract

Popular names of certain flysch rocks as sovdan, sovdanovec and the like do not originate in the word sovd, i.e. coin, nummulus in Latin. The nummulitins resembling coins are not that frequent in southwest Slovenia that would be known among the people. Concerning the nummulitins from Vipolže in Brda appears the problem of certain intermediate forms or new species, especially between Assilina marinellii marinellii and Ass. praespira as well as Nummulites praelorioli and N. boussaci. The Vipolže 2 locality is Upper Cuisian, perhaps near the Cuisian - Lutetian boundary
