Abstract

Inclusions of granite, sandstone, and shale in the basalts of northern Bavaria are described. The feldspars, in most instances, are partially changed to sanidine, and the quartz is partially fused to glass. By-products of the alteration are diopside, aegirite, and kataphorite, derived from the basalt, and spinel and sillimanite derived from the mica. In other places fusion into glass predominates, with accompanying cordierite, spinel, and sillimanite.
