Abstract

The opposition to assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) or forced treatment is long‐standing. Observers interviewed by MHW pointed to harms of forced treatment and unrealistic expectations of implementation. Some said opposition to involuntary treatment has been ongoing for 30 years. On the other hand, some observers said that the AOT bill would establish patient protections. Others suggest client‐centered approaches.
