Abstract

This paper describes an analytical relationship between learning phenomena, assembly line design, and labor productivity. It is shown how assembly line design acts upon labor productivity if the rate of human learning and the composition of the labor force are held constant. Further, it is shown how different assembly line designs can lead to the same labor productivity by suitably adjusting the rate of learning.
