Abstract

During the period from February, 1948, through March, 1949, sixty-six largemouth bass, Huro salmoides, from various locations in the State of Texas were examined for their helminth parasites. Although the parasites of the largemouth bass have been extensively studied throughout a large part of its range, no published material or data from Texas have come to the attention of the author. For that reason, this study is presented as a contribution to the knowledge of the parasites of this fish over a part of its range previously not studied. The writer wishes to thank the faculty and students of the Department of Wildlife Management, the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas; and certain members of the staff of the Texas Game, Fish, and Oyster Commission for aid in the collection of bass. He also wishes to thank Dr. Sewell H. Hopkins, Department of Biology, the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, whose interest and guidance made this work possible.
