Abstract

AbstractExperiments in three aspects of total weed control are described. These are (i) weed control on railways, (ii) weed control with granular herbicides, and (iii) weed control with bipyridylium herbicides, mainly in admixture with residual‐type herbicides. It is concluded that (i) sodium chlorate/diuron is a better treatment than diuron or simazine alone for weed control on railways, (ii) granular herbicides are more effective applied in early March than in early February or early April in Southern England, and (iii) the bipyridyls, particularly paraquat, confer great benefit to residual‐type weed killers when applied in admixture.
