Abstract

Examples are given of the automatic improvement of the aberration correction of Optical systems by a computing machine, using methods of optimisation described in earlier papers. The examples given are (a) and f/4 lens covering ±35.4° of field, (b) a series of operations on an f/2 double-Gauss lens, showing the improvement to be achieved by using higher index glasses, and by replacing the single rear element by two single lenses, and (c) an f/0.5 lens designed for unit magnification.
