Abstract

The release of histamine from dog liver particles and isolated perfused cat paws was induced by various histamine liberators in both isotonic and hypertonic solutions of sucrose and mannitol. When any of several base-type histamine liberators were employed, significantly less histamine was discharged from the preparations in 1.2 M solutions than in isotonic solutions (0.32 M). No significant differences were found when surface-active compounds were used as liberators.
