Abstract

A method for recording the electrocardiogram of the land crab, Cardisoma guanhumi is described. The effects of Physalia toxin on the electrocardiographic pattern are described. These include inhibition of contractions, enhanced output of bioelectric potential by neurons of the cardiac ganglion, and some interruption in normal conduction pathways between ganglion cells and heart muscle cells.
