Abstract

Abstract Leaf samples collected during the 1971 growing season from peach trees [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch] affected with eastern X-disease and compared with leaves from healthy trees had the same soluble N, but a greatly reduced H20-insoluble fraction, and increased pipecolic acid content. These results are similar to those reported for western X-disease and further corroborate the similarity of these diseases. Physiological effect of the pathogen on the peach host may be the equivalent of a prolonged moisture stress.
